Acquainting my self as Parthavi Patel, in field of Arts, I have acquired Diploma in Painting from Sheth C.N. College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad.as interest and talent made me firm from my childhood days to perceive my career in this line. For knowledge sky is the limit and I always had that thirst to learn. This Zest for learning directed me towards Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. Uni. Baroda, where I completed my Post Diploma in Graphic Arts for which my heart and my mind batch had made me dreamed about.
Working Process:
Print making being a subsidiary subject during my academic years in the Painting Department developed an interest of learning it more deeply. During the 2 years journey of my post Dip. I learned and understood various Print Making techniques. I always have had a special interest in negative-positive masses. I like the individuality of each medium say – the grains in a Lithograph Print also even the texture obtained when a lino is etched. I enjoy the graduation of tones in a print of etching acquaint which indeed give me a feeling of Black & White Painting.
Expressing my self:
As a matter of expressing ones
inner self I started my journey with sketching at “Construction Sights” at the very initial stages, where I found those workers who are round the clock attached to their work and though with minimum resources enjoy the actual moments of life and entertain themselves. This gave birth to three of my works – “Child hood pleasures – I” where the poor child is gathering immense pleasure with a waste Cone in the form of drum. The echo of this sound is breaking the silence of the surroundings at a roughly constructed sight who nobody lives and is ampted with loneliness. “Child hood pleasures – II” says about a brother and a sister. They both are playing with a telephone made from a scrap glass and thread. The painting on the wall made by either of them shows the lack of paper “Child hood pleasure – III” depicts about a small boy in the foreground who is busy entertaining his self with a balloon he made from a plastic bag is running here and there hence finding pleasure within it. And the background reveals the story of his other family members at work.
Walking on this path I came across certain realities of life. A life, where there are lots of compromises with the desires and dreams the struggle for the survival and the hidden pain behind those. This lead to some works – like “The lost dream”, small in size though narrates the sentiments of a little girl who is not satisfied with the work she had done. This was not her dream rather. “The lament” – says about a mother’s tragic situation where she finds. So helpless, knowingly that she won’t be able to do justice as one of her either child will have to suffer in one condition. The title of this work is tracing a bilateral meaning the one i.e. visualized and the other remains within the Mother’s heart. Where as “In seek of ……” tells about two kids who have nobody behind them in this world. Complete loneliness is accompanying the surrounding here.
With the exploration of my interest slowly and gradually day-to-day labour jobs where also included in my work. My interest leaned more towards the poor class of the society who try to earn their living through various options, this metamorphosis lead to work like “The Sweat” where starting round the clock, the Men are undergoing serve drudgery carrying and depositing the wheat bags all the day. The drop (black-spot) on the left side of the print. Finally getting merged with the ground supports the title here. Portrayal of “The load” tells the summary about a man carrying the load of responsibility here enduring with the struggle for survival for his self and the entire family. The metaphorical title “Load” makes a comparison between the actual load his is carrying and the load of catching the needs.
As a search of exploring the possibility to create the unforeseen expressions in my work I always use to go out and room here and there on the streets, the rural areas, the foot paths lying in the city areas, during the day time. I started doing spot photographies and hence came in touch with a new medium. As a result it proved to me as a helpful medium while conducting halftone serigraphies. This gave birth to works like “The battling family” where the entire clan is occupied with the only task i.e. winning the battle over their indigence. “Still working” recites the tale about an old man i.e. somewhere in the corner of his heart there may be a desire to live a day when he will be free from his struggle. And yet not leaving the battle field he has still dedicated his life to his work. No matter, if he might have to end his life before the rise of the day his is waiting for. This gives me enormous inspirations to carry on struggle with my work. “Thirst” is saying something about an old widow on one side of a footh path serving the people, fulfilling their thirst, but there is nobody after who is going to serve her appetite. The whole world is busy behind. All these throws reflection on the pain and hardships they all have to undergo each and every day, where ultimately the whole matter exists just for earning few pennies at the day ending.
Conclusion:
Born & Brought up within a middle class family I have been through the thick and thins of life. And that may be the cause behind relating my own self with all these people and probably this has left a deep impact on my subconscious mind that initially, I just started perceiving this class of the society. Having been penetrated into their life styles I found myself similar to those. At conscious levels I can say that the struggle for my work and the struggle of those for their survival has a close resemblance with each other. For me “Life is a Struggle” – A battle field and accepting all the obstacles I am ready to fight till the end of my life.
